Hope Springs Anew: Hyacinth's Place

Hope Springs Anew: Hyacinth's Place
Monday, December 20, 2010

Construction at Hyacinth's Place is wrapping up. This project provides 15 units of permanent, affordable housing for homeless women recovering from mental illness. Half of the units are set aside to serve elderly women. On-site, comprehensive therapeutic and social re-integration services will be available.

The modern design of the building reflects a fresh start for the residents and the neighborhood and incorporates green building principles in alignment with the regenerative spirit of the project.  Hyacinth’s Place is intended to create an environment where women can work and live together in a place which nurtures and supports their recovery.

Mission First HDC is providing development assistance for the Institute of Urban Living, a local nonprofit. The project is financed through a combination of grants and loans from the District of Columbia’s Department of Mental Health, Department of Housing and Community Development and a grant from the Cornerstone Foundation.
